Arizona Anthem Hosts Freefly Scrambles

Four-way vertical formation skydiving team Arizona Anthem hosted its first Freefly Scrambles at Skydive Arizona in Eloy February 21-23. The team called its event “We’re Bringing It Back” in memory of the freefly money meets that Arizona Arsenal used to host at the DZ.

Event participants attended a mandatory meeting on Friday night, where the organizers announced the draw and the pairings for each 2-way round. Then everyone enjoyed a few beverages and received freebies from event sponsors Firebird, FlyGum, Performance Designs, SSK Industries, SunPath Products and Vertical Suits. Unfortunately, Saturday’s weather was horrible. However, Anthem team member and self-confessed VFS addict Seth Studer put together five pickup teams for a 4-way VFS event in the onsite wind tunnel. Attendees also took part in static and carving huck jams.

Fortunately, Sunday’s weather, though not ideal, at least allowed for three rounds of competition and the awarding of prizes. John Blackburn took first, Yanni Lee took second, and Peter Kindred took third. The members of Anthem hope to hold a scrambles competition again and will keep their fingers crossed for better weather next time.
